Mission, Goals and Philosophy

The counselors and staff with Minnesota Virtual High School believe that students should have access to a licensed school counselor to discuss personal concerns, to access information about occupational and educational planning, and to receive help when struggling academically.

Our goal is to work with the entire student population so all students can acquire the necessary tools for each student to achieve their full potential in the areas of academic, personal, social, and career domains.

The mission of the AAI Counseling Program is to enable all students regardless of individual differences to acquire the educational, occupational and social competencies necessary to function and contribute in an ever changing society.

What do Counselors Do?

School counselors help students evaluate their abilities, interests, talents, and personalities to develop realistic academic and career goals. They also provide career information and guidance which can be found on the Virtual College & Career Resource Center tab.

School Counselors also inform and assist students regarding college majors, admission requirements, financial aid and trade or technical schools. They provide information on how to develop job search skills, such as resume writing and interviewing techniques.

And that's not all. School counselors can assist with personal, family, educational, mental health, and career issues. They can help students understand and deal with social, behavioral, and personal problems. Through counseling students, they can provide growth and development in the life skills needed to deal with problems and enhance students' personal, social, and academic growth.
